REPLY
I read a post on surnames, on why people take the surnames from the father, instead of the mother. I must say, that post was quite a feminist. And my inner chauvinist is gonna speak up. Not that I am very chauvinist but just to clear things up for my friend seems to have some uncertainties.
Firstly, the surname is there for recognition of clans and tribes. It has dated long long way back in the history of probably cavemen, where they use a special word of sound to identify each other. Thus surname is important. More importantly, is the question why surnames are from the men. Well, my inference will be probably the women too had fought for their rights to use the sound or word mainly known as surname to identify themselves. Yet, men, being the more physically enabled would have 'bullied' the women into suppression as at that time, intelligence was at a minimum. Thus i believe that was how the method of identifying people was passed down and so the surnames were from the men.
Another part will be about women being child-bearing machines. Actually I feel that this is a misconception many women have about men. Although many men would like to have more children, it does not mean to degrade women into factories to produce babies for the men only. In actual fact, men wants babies as a "investment". As the children grows up, they will in return take care of you when one becomes old and sick. I would like to think of this as a natural instinct to survive. In socialistic animals like monkeys and elephants where they live as herds and groups. The young will take care of the old when they are sick and not as strong as before. This way, it will ensure a longer lifespan and survival. I believe, men, are also social animals. Thus having babies is a form of insurance and investment in which the 'herd' will take care of the old and sick. With having more babies and children will ensure the chances of living longer in the world as they will take care of you. Also the fact that men like to have more babies doesn't mean that they disregard the women's felings too. In fact it is love for them that they wish to have babies with them. Another term for babies would be 'fruit of love'. This shows that great emphasis was placed on having babies and it's not some funny matter. Respect for women nonetheless has also increased over the centuries where nowadays, women stand on equal grounds as men. Therefore I think that when they say men don't understand women, they also missed out another side of the story, where women don't understand men.
One point for the ladies though. You can say no to such stuff if you don't want. Cause the men will respect your decision for they love you. Well, most men nowadays are like that. LIKE ME!!! Haha.
